Emigrant Lake had been on my to-do list for a while. I’d seen several photos of it online from other hikers’ posts and, as usual, I wanted to see it with my own eyes. So, Sunday morning, we got up, packed the Land Cruiser, and headed down to Kirkwood. I had no idea that we would also be treated to wildflowers, creeks, and waterfall cascades this late in the season. This made it one of my favorite hikes this year.

Even after all of the beautiful creeks and waterfalls, when we arrived at Emigrant Lake, it was even more amazing. I couldn’t wait to get my shoes off and dip them in the lake. So, I did just that while I had my snack. Crystal-clear, calm water. Green trees. Imposing rock face surround. Beautiful sunshine.
A very lovely hike today. Wildflowers, creeks and waterfall cascades, and soaking our feet in an ice cold alpine lake. Doesn’t get much better than that.
